CBD and THC are the foremost common chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant.
Although the plant contains quite 140 chemical compounds that are unique to cannabis, CBD and THC are most plentiful.
A slight difference in how the atoms are arranged accounts for the differing effects on your body.
Both CBD and THC are chemically almost like your body’s endocannabinoids and this permits them to interact together with your cannabinoid receptors.
The interaction affects the release of neurotransmitters in your brain. Neurotransmitters are chemicals responsible for relaying messages between cells and have roles in pain, immune function, stress, and sleep.

THC is a psychoactive chemical unique to the cannabis plant. When someone ingests THC, which may be done by smoking cannabis or eating products, it activates the cannabinoid receptors in the brain.
These receptors are a part of the endocannabinoid system, which affects many areas of the brain and body. Since cannabinoid receptors are so common and THC activates those, the results of THC are wide-ranging. Common effects of THC that usually draw people to recreational use include relaxation and euphoria, a way of being "high", hunger. Under federal law, marijuana and THC remains a schedule substance with no accepted medical use. However, research indicates that THC also has medical benefits, which has led a minimum of 35 states and Washington D.C. to legalize its medicinal use. Medical benefits include reducing nausea, stimulating appetite, treating spasticity and neuropathic pain.

CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol. Also CBD is present cannabis plants but more plentiful in hemp, rather than marijuana. Hemp has been legal federally since 2018, if a product contains less than 0.3% THC. CBD can be taken as a tincture, gummy, or by other means, but isn't generally smoked, when THC often is. Since CBD is a legal substance, its production and dosage aren't regulated.
Despite the restrictions of research about CBD, proponents claim that it can help with conditions starting from insomnia to chronic pain. However, these purported benefits haven't been proven.

CBD and THC, the 2 main chemicals found in the cannabis plant, both have potential health benefits. However, research on both is extremely limited, since hemp (containing CBD) was federally illegal until 2018, and marijuana (containing THC) remains federally illegal.
While research about many health impacts of cannabis, both positive and negative, is inconclusive or lacking, there are some details to remember:
THC is psychoactive, while CBD isn't, and THC remains illegal federally, with no accepted medical uses, although most states have legalized recreational or medical marijuana in some form.
